When using adaptive modes, the image region used to calculate the
contrast/brightness adjustments can be limited to a specific contrast zone (using the
features available in the Contrast / Brightness category). This can be useful if the
image scene contains distinct regions (for example, a horizon with sky and landscape)
and the area of interest resides in one region; the contrast is then tailored to this
specific region. When using a contrast zone, the resulting contrast is applied to the
entire image.
Dynamic Adaptive Mode
The dynamic adaptive mode can be used when the scene contents vary from image to
image to guarantee optimized contrast for 8-bit image output, regardless of scene
content. The dynamic adaptive mode determines the range of values to map using the
standard deviation from the current scene. The contrast setting (contrast feature)
determines the number of standard deviations around this average value that are
mapped to 8-bit values.
