Blinking light codes

During startup, the computer may not boot properly. If this occurs, blinking light codes can help identify the
cause.
The computer uses the following blinking lights to identify a hardware component that reports an error during
startup. For more information, see

Blinking light codes and what they mean
Blink codes
Amber battery light: blinks 1 Hz continuously
Caps and num lk lights = 1 blink
Caps and num lk lights = 2 blinks
Caps and num lk lights = 3 blinks
Caps and num lk lights = 4 blinks
Caps and num lk lights = 5 blinks
Caps and num lk lights = 6 blinks
Caps and num lk lights = 7 blinks
Caps and num lk lights = 8 blinks

POST error messages

The Power-On Self-Test (POST) is a series of diagnostic tests that runs automatically when the computer
is turned on. If the POST encounters a problem, visual error messages are displayed before the operating
system starts.
POST checks the following items to ensure that the computer system is functioning properly:
Memory
Processors
BIOS
Mass storage devices
Fans

Description
Amber: HP 3D DriveGuard has temporarily parked the hard drive.
White: The computer is connected to external power.
Off: The computer is not connected to external power.
