Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 module fundamentals
Avaya ships each memory card with its read-write protect switch in the unprotected position.
After you successfully load the configuration file and save your configuration, you may want
to write-protect the memory card for backup purposes. For more information, see
PCMCIA card files
Typically, you do not operate an Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 Series with a write-
protected memory card. Make a copy of your configuration on another memory card, write-
protect that card, and store it in a safe place. If you do not have a second memory card, you
can copy your configuration to a TFTP or FTP server.

8895 SF/CPU Module

The 8895SF/CPU module performs the same functions as the 8692 SF/CPU and a super-
mezzanine CPU. The 8895SF/CPU has greater memory, storage, and processing capabilities
than the 8692SF/CPU.
Dual 8895SF/CPU switch fabric/CPU modules, see
enable a maximum switch bandwidth of 512 Gb/s. Using the Split MultiLink Trunking (SMLT)
protocol in the core, a redundant Ethernet Routing Switch 8800 with two 8895SF/CPU modules
can provide over 1 terabit per second (Tb/s) of core switching capacity.

Do not use any software prior to Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 Release 7.0 with the
8895SF/CPU CPU module.
The 8895SF/CPU has 1024 MB (1 GB) of synchronous dynamic random access memory
(SDRAM) for forwarding tables, and at least 64 MB of onboard flash memory for configuration,
image, and log file storage.
Using the SMLT protocol in the core, the Ethernet Routing Switch 8800 can provide over 1 Tb/
s of core switching capability.
