SF/CPU modules

The following sections describe the Switch Fabric/Central Processing Unit (SF/CPU)
modules.

8692SF/CPU module

The following figure shows the 8692SF/CPU module. Dual 8692SF/CPU switch fabric modules
enable a maximum switch bandwidth of 512 Gbps. By using the Split MultiLink Trunking
(SMLT) protocol in the core, a redundant Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 with two 8692SF/
CPU modules can provide over 1 Tbps of core switching capacity.
Important:
This release only supports 8692 SF/CPU with SuperMezz. If 8692 SF/CPU is installed
without a SuperMezz daughter card, the line cards are not activated.

You can install the 8692SF/CPU module in slots 5 or 6 of the 8006, 8010, or 8010co chassis
and you can install the 8692SF/CPU module in slot 3 of the 8300R chassis. If you install an
8692SF/CPU, the other CPU must also be an 8692SF/CPU.
The 8692SF/CPU includes 256 MB of synchronous dynamic random access memory
(SDRAM) for forwarding tables, and 56 MB of on-board Flash memory for configuration, image
and log file storage.
The 8692SF/CPU requires an Enterprise Enhanced CPU Daughter Card. The Enterprise
Enhanced CPU Daughter Card is a mezzanine daughter card consisting of dual 1 GHz Power
PC processors. Install the daughter card on an 8692SF/CPU module to offload processor-
intensive tasks from the 333 MHz processor located on the 8692SF/CPU motherboard. You
require the Enterprise Enhanced CPU Daughter Card to configure sub-100 millisecond failover
and support of IPv6 routing interfaces. For more information about installation instructions, see

The Flash memory consists of two volumes: Volume/0 has a capacity of 16 MB, and Volume/
1 has a capacity of 64 MB. You can use either volume to store multiple file types. By default,
the system can only use 16 MB on Volume/0. If you want to use 64 MB on Volume/1, see
