Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 module fundamentals
Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch 8800/8600 Upgrades — Software Release 7.1,
NN46205-400.
You can install an 8692SF/CPU module in both slots 5 and 6 of the 8006, 8010, or 8010co
chassis to enable redundant operation. The redundant module in slot 6 can then assume the
processing duties of a failing primary module in slot 5.
When the 8692SF/CPU module in slot 6 completes initialization, it recalculates the topology
(Layer 2 including Spanning Tree Group, Layer 3 including routing topology using RIP/OSPF
or BGP) information for the switch unless you enable High Availability mode. In this case, all
supported Layer 3 information synchronizes to the redundant SF/CPU, which does not interrupt
network services.
For more information about High Availability mode, see Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch
Administration, NN46205-605.
The two 8692SF/CPU modules share switch fabric functions for the switch. If one
8692SF/CPU module fails, the system reverts to operation with a single 8692SF/CPU
module.
For more information about upgrade instructions, see Avaya Ethernet Routing Switch
8800/8600 Upgrades — Software Release 7.1, NN46205-400.
Caution:
Risk of equipment damage
Do not install a software version earlier than Release 3.5.6 on the 8692SF/CPU module. If
you operate the 8692SF/CPU module with a release earlier than Ethernet Routing Switch
8800/8600 Release 3.5.6, the module can sustain damage.
Caution:
Risk of data loss
Before you insert an 8692SF/CPU in a Secondary SF/CPU slot, ensure that the Master SF/
CPU is running the required software release.
