Configuration — Power over Ethernet
You can set the priority for power allocation for PoE card slots and ports. The priority
choices are low, high, or critical. The default priority setting for slots or ports is low.
During a power cycle, the power allocation is determined by the slot priority and port
priority.
Because the default priority setting for ports is low, in this configuration example
you need not configure the Wireless AP ports 8/1-8/18.
The following commands set the PoE priority to critical for the VoIP PD interfaces
and set the PoE priority to high for the webcam interfaces:
ERS-8310:5#
config poe port 7/1-7/10 power-priority critical
ERS-8310:5#
config poe port 8/15-8/20 power-priority high
You can set the power allocation priority for Ethernet Routing Switch 8300 slots and
ports. The power allocation priority choices are low, high, or critical.
In this configuration example, supplying power to VOIP PDs and WebCam PDs on
slot 7 is more critical than supplying power to the Wireless PD on slot 7. Therefore,
slot 7 power allocation priority is set to critical and slot 8 power allocation priority is
set to high. By default, the priority setting for all slots is set to low.
The following commands assign a priority for slot power allocation:
ERS-8310:5#
config poe card 7 power-priority critical
ERS-8310:5#
config poe card 8 power-priority high
You can set the main power usage threshold from 0 to 99 percent. Any consumption
above this threshold generates a warning message to the console and log file. The
default threshold is 80 percent.
a. To receive a warning message when the overall power consumption of
all ports on slot 7, including the VoIP and WebCam PDs, exceed 70
percent, use the following command:
ERS-8310:5#
config poe card 7 power-usage-threshold 70
The transmission of all notification messages is enabled by default.
Therefore, when the threshold is reached, a warning message is sent to
the log file. You can enable or disable the PoE notification as follows:
