Locating Component Serial Numbers

Before contacting Juniper Networks to request a Return Materials Authorization
(RMA), you must find the serial number on the chassis or component. To list all the
chassis modules and their serial numbers, enter the following command:
host1#show hardware
You can also find the serial numbers on the modules. ID stickers are
usually applied near the ejector. See Figure 60.
Note that fan trays are not listed in the show hardware command output. ERX-7xx
model and ERX-14xx model fan trays have stickers on the faceplate. For the ERX-310
router however, you must remove the fan tray to view the serial number ID sticker.

Locating Component Serial Numbers
Obtain a Return Materials Authorization (RMA) number from the Juniper
Networks Technical Assistance Center (JTAC). See "Information You Might
Need to Supply to JTAC" on page 147.
Provide the following information in your e-mail message or during the
telephone call:
Part number and serial number of component
Your name, organization name, telephone number, and fax number
The shipping address for the replacement component, including contact
name and phone number
Description of the failure
The support representative validates your request and issues an RMA number
for return of the component.
Pack the routing node or component for shipment, performing the procedure
described in "Returning Products for Repair or Replacement" on page 148.
