Adding and removing adapter cards and drives
Before you begin working with the hardware inside your
system unit, read the following sections of "Chapter 5:
Preparing to upgrade":
"Evaluating your new hardware" on page 54
This section contains information you need to
understand about potential system resource
conflicts. Your new hardware might attempt to use a
resource that is already assigned to other hardware.
"Planning your hardware changes" on page 56
This section contains important information about
planning an order for hardware changes and
recording changed hardware settings. You can avoid
repeated steps if you follow the recommendations in
this section.
If you need to resolve resource conflicts, read the
following sections of this chapter:
"Resolving Mwave resource conflicts" on page 73
"Resolving Plug and Play resource conflicts" on
page 76
When you are ready to work inside your system unit,
note that adapter card slot and drive bay positions vary
depending on whether you have a desktop unit or a
minitower unit. Follow the instructions in the
appropriate section:
"Working with the hardware in the desktop system
unit" on page 78
"Working with the hardware in the minitower
system unit" on page 100

Resolving Mwave resource conflicts

If you purchased a computer with an Mwave card, the
instructions in this section can help you resolve some
potential conflicts between your new hardware and the
Mwave card. This section contains information to help
you resolve system resource or joystick port conflicts.
To resolve resource and joystick port conflicts, you use
the Windows 95 Device Manager. Using the Device
Manager, you can resolve conflicts that might occur with
input/output (I/O) address, interrupt request (IRQ), and
direct memory access (DMA) resources.
