About sound cards

Some IBM Aptiva PCs come with a sound card already
installed.
Many software programs use the sound card for sound
effects and music. The sound card processes audio data
files and works with the CD-ROM drive to play audio
compact discs
Most sound cards have the following connections:
Line in
This connector is designed to receive the
output from another device such as a stereo
receiver or tape recorder.
Mic
This connector is designed to receive input
from an external microphone.
Line out
This connector is designed to transmit
audio output from the sound card to
another device such as amplified speakers,
a stereo, tape recorder, or headphones.
MIDI
This connector is designed to receive or
transmit MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital
Interface) signals from devices such as a
keyboard. This connector may also be used
with input devices for games such as a joy-
stick.
If you use an industry standard MIDI/joystick
expansion cable, you can connect up to two

came installed in your computer, refer to the
documentation that came with the sound card. This
documentation may be online or in a printed book.

About Mwave cards

Some IBM Aptiva PCs come with an Mwave card already
installed.
The Mwave adapter card combines all of the features of
a sound card and modem. The Mwave card works with
the software and hardware to provide:
A sound system with CD quality stereo playback and
recording
Operation of many programs that are written for
SoundBlaster sound cards
A joystick port
Appendix B
joysticks and one MIDI device at the same
time.
