Inspect the Fuel and Hydraulic
Tank Cap Venting Systems
Genie specifications require that this procedure be
performed quarterly or every 250 hours, whichever
comes first. Perform this procedure more often if
dusty conditions exist.
A free-breathing fuel and hydraulic tank cap is
essential for good machine performance and
service life. A dirty or clogged cap may cause the
machine to perform poorly and continued use may
cause component damage. Extremely dirty
conditions may require that the cap be inspected
more often.
Explosion and fire hazard. Engine
fuels are combustible. Perform this
procedure in an open, well-
ventilated area away from heaters,
sparks, flames and lighted
tobacco. Always have an
approved fire extinguisher within
easy reach.
Gasoline/LPG models (before serial
number 13740) and Diesel models (all):
Note: Perform this procedure with the engine off.
Note: Gasoline/LPG models use a pressurized cap
beginning with serial number 13740.
1 Remove the cap from the fuel tank.

2 Check for proper venting.
Note: When checking for positive fuel tank cap
venting, air should pass freely through the cap.
Result: Air should pass through the fuel tank
cap. Proceed to step 4.
Result: Air is not passing through the fuel tank
cap. Clean or replace the cap.
Proceed to step 3.
3 Using a mild solvent, carefully wash the cap
venting system. Dry using low pressure
compressed air. Repeat this procedure
beginning with step 2.
4 Install the fuel tank cap onto the fuel tank.
All models:
5 Remove the breather cap from the hydraulic
tank.
6 Check for proper venting.
Result: Air should pass through the breather
cap. Proceed to step 8.
Result: If air does not pass through the breather
cap, clean or replace the cap.
Proceed to step 7.
Note: When checking for positive tank cap venting,
air should pass freely through the cap.
7 Using a mild solvent, carefully wash the cap
venting system. Dry using low pressure
compressed air. Repeat this procedure
beginning with step 6.
8 Install the breather cap onto the hydraulic tank.
