CLEANING THE AIR FILTER ELEMENT

NOTICE
The engine should never be run without the
air filter; excessive piston and / or cylinder
wear may result.
5. Check:
• air filter element
Damage → Replace.
6. Clean:
• air filter element
a. Wash the element gently, but thoroughly in
solvent.
WARNING
Use a cleaning solvent which is designed
to clean parts only. Never use gasoline or
low flash point solvents as they may cause
a fire or explosion.
b. Squeeze the excess solvent out of the ele-
ment and let it dry.
NOTICE
Do not twist or wring out the element. This
could damage the foam material.
c. Apply Yamaha foam air filter oil or other
quality foam air filter oil.
d. Squeeze out the excess oil.
TIP
The element should be wet but not dripping.
7. Install:
• air filter element assembly
• air filter element frame
• air filter element
• air filter element cap
• bolt
8. Install:
• air filter element assembly
• bolt
TIP
Make sure its sealing surface matches the
sealing surface of the case so there is no air
leak.
