FRONT AND REAR BRAKES
REPLACING THE REAR BRAKE PADS
TIP
It is not necessary to disassemble the brake
caliper and brake hose to replace the brake
pads.
1. Remove:
• brake pads
wear limit
Brake pad wear limit
1.0 mm (0.04 in)
TIP
Replace the brake pads as a set if either is
found to be worn to the wear limit.
2. Install:
• brake pads
• brake pad spring
TIP
Always install new brake pads and brake pad
spring as a set.
a. Connect a suitable hose
brake caliper bleed screw
end of this hose into an open container.
b. Loosen the brake caliper bleed screw and,
using a finger, push the caliper piston into
the brake caliper.
c. Tighten the brake caliper bleed screw.
d. Install a new brake pad spring and new
brake pads.
3. Install:
• brake caliper
• brake caliper mounting bolts
Brake caliper mounting bolt
28 Nm (2.8 m•kg, 20.3 ft•lb)
4. Check:
• brake fluid level
Refer to "CHECKING THE REAR BRAKE
FLUID LEVEL" in chapter 3.
5. Check:
• brake lever or brake pedal operation
Soft or spongy feeling
system.
Refer to "BLEEDING THE HYDRAULIC
BRAKE SYSTEM" in chapter 3.
