THE BIG PICTURE

GL-1020 Administrator's Guide
The TOSHIBA e-STUDIO550-810 Electronic Document
Processing System consists of a TOSHIBA e-STUDIO550/650/
810 digital copier, GL-1020 controller, and client software. At a
high level, the steps for implementing the system include:
Install the digital copier, GL-1020 controller, and network
interface card (NIC).
Configure the controller software for your network
environment.
This involves using the copier's Liquid Crystal Display
(LCD) touch screen to establish network-specific print
services (Novell, Microsoft, Unix, or Macintosh), set up
wireless networking, optimize network settings, and
customize device properties.
On networks running TCP/IP, you can also perform these
functions using the GL-1020 embedded web utility,
TopAccess.
Install client software on your workstation, including the
document monitoring utility, GL-DocMon, and applicable
printer drivers, filters, or PPD files.
You or your users can use the CD or TopAccess to install
client software on individual workstations.

Hardware Installation

Digital Copier
The TOSHIBA e-STUDIO550/650/810 is installed by your
certified TOSHIBA service technician usually prior to and
independent of the network implementation.
GL-1020 Controller
Your TOSHIBA service technician also installs the GL-1020
controller, which is physically mounted on the back of the digital
copier and connected to the PCI bridge board.
Network Interface Card
The GL-1020 controller ships with an embedded Ethernet
Network Interface Card (NIC). To connect the controller to an
Ethernet network, insert the network cable into the socket on the
card.
