    INSTALLATION OVERVIEW The TOSHIBA e-STUDIO550-810 Electronic Document Processing System consists of several integrated hardware and software components. The default installation settings are designed to suit the needs of most sites, so they may need adjusting for your network environment. Accordingly, forethought and planning play critical roles in a successful implementation.

    THE BIG PICTURE The TOSHIBA e-STUDIO550-810 Electronic Document Processing System consists of a TOSHIBA e-STUDIO550/650/ 810 digital copier, GL-1020 controller, and client software. At a high level, the steps for implementing the system include: Install the digital copier, GL-1020 controller, and network interface card (NIC).

    TopAccess. In addition to system configuration, TopAccess provides job monitoring and system management functions. Depending on how you intend to use your GL-1020 controller, you may need to perform specific administrative functions before establishing print services. For example, you may have to set up Novell printer and server objects.

    IP addresses to the GL-1020, consider set- ting up WINS servers for host name resolution. • Running the GL-1020 as a print server in a Novell environ- ment over IP is not supported. However, you can use the con- troller as a printer agent if you have set up NDPS printing.

    Please do not use the underscore (“_”) or at (“@”) characters in the device (controller) name. Workgroup Name You cannot assign the GL-1020 to a Microsoft Domain. You must assign it to a workgroup. Both Microsoft printing and controller software updates require the workgroup name.
