STATUS/MESSAGE OPERATION

Status and message operation is possible with either the Scan or System ver-
sion of the ORION radio unit. The following procedure is applicable for the
System version. For operation with the Scan version the four primary key-
caps must be reconfigured and pre-programmed for status/message opera-
tion.

STATUS OPERATION

Status operation permits the transmission of a pre-programmed status condi-
tion to the EDACS site.
To send a status condition, press the
button then press one of the num-
s
ber buttons (0-9) to select the pre-programmed status. If no status has been
programmed for the selected number button, the radio will display NO EN-
TRY. A valid selection will permit the status text to appear in the display for
a pre-programmed time. After the time-out expires or the
button has
m
been pressed (the
button will override the time-out period), the status is
m
selected and will be transmitted to the site or stored in the radio memory
where it can be polled by the site at a future time. If the site does not receive
the status properly, the radio will sound a low pitched tone.
If an incorrect status was selected or the incorrect number button was
pressed, the status can be changed during the pre-programmed time-out pe-
riod by pressing another number button. The status selection can also be can-
celled by pressing the
button prior to the time-out period.
c
To view the currently selected status after it has been transmitted, press the
button and then the
button prior to the time-out period. If the status
s
c
was not sent successfully to the site, the text associated with the status will
flash in the display.
The radio can also be pre-programmed to redesignate the keypad buttons for
ST0 thru ST9 to send status condition. In this configuration the radio status
operation will operate as previously described except the
button is not
s
required.

MESSAGE OPERATION

Message operation permits the transmission of a pre-programmed message
text to an EDACS site.
