Recommended sequence for re-
setting drive pinion set
If it is necessary to set the shaft bevel gear and
head bevel gear, observe the following sequence
to ensure a rational workflow:
1. Setting shaft bevel gear (S
- Determine thickness of shim ”S
This sets the preload of the taper roller
bearings for the shaft bevel gear.
- Determine thickness of shim ”S
This fixes the shaft bevel gear axially so that
the dimension from the middle of the head
bevel gear to the face end of the shaft bevel
gear equals the installation dimension ”R”
determined during production
- Carry out an inspection measurement for S
2. Setting head bevel gear (S
- Set preload of taper roller bearings for the
head bevel gear using S
torque
- Set torsional backlash. Select thickness of
the shims ”S
torsional backlash exists between shaft bevel
gear and head bevel gear.
- Inspection of torsional backlash
The aim of the setting is to recreate the position
offering the quietest running which was
determined on the test machine during product-
ion. Scrupulous care and cleanliness when
carrying out all removal and installation work
