LAN REQUIREMENTS
Installation Manual
June, 2011
The IPedge communication system is an IP system. At each site all of the
system components are connected via a LAN. The IPedge server, on-site
IPTs, gateways, other servers communicate over the site LAN. Other
devices connect over a WAN or the Internet. While it is a single network
connection, it can help you to understand the IPedge system to see that
all of the network traffic falls into one of two types.
Each IPedge server network connection supports two functional planes.
The Administration plane
The Communication or Calls plane
The Admin plane, as the name suggests, carries all of the system
administration tasks. It is on this plane the Admin terminal connects to the
Enterprise Manager on the Primary Node, SNMP commands are sent
from Enterprise Manager to all of the nodes in the network. This plane
carries the database backup and restore functions.
The Calls plane carries the call setup, take down and the voice or data
content of the calls.
