Colour Mapping Tables
Introduction
The AFP architecture uses five colour spaces:
• CMYK
• RGB
• LAB
• OCA (Object content Architecture)
• HLC (Highlight Colour)
In addition, IOCA FS 11 images can also use the YCbCr or the YCrCb colour space.
Object Containers, such as TIFF or PDF, use different sets of colour spaces.
A highlight colour can only be printed when the OCA or HLC colour spaces are used. The other
colour spaces will only produce B/W or full colour output.
The Colour Management Module (CMM) uses an output profile for the printer along with an input
profile and/or output profile from the application. With these profiles, the five colour spaces of the
AFP architecture can be mapped into the Device-CMYK space (colour printer) or Device-Gray
space (B/W printer).
A Colour Mapping Table (CMT) can be used to map the OCA colours to shades of gray, to
highlight colours, or to full process colours. For example, you can use the OCA colour Blue to
print with the blue highlight colour toner. Avoid using the obsolete "Brown/Alternate Colour"
model in new applications. All the OCA colours, except White and Colour-of-Medium, can be
translated through a Colour Mapping Table. By default, a factory CMT is installed. You can create
and install your own CMTs or you can use a CMT which is downloaded with the application.
Install a Colour Mapping Table
You must use the Settings Editor to install Colour Mapping Tables on the hard disk of the
controller. The Colour Mapping Table must be contained by an MO:DCA Object Container. The
container must use the AFP / MO:DCA format; not the IPDS format. The container format and the
format of the CMT are described in detail in the
name must be ".CMT".
Delete a Colour Mapping Table
You must use the Settings Editor to delete Colour Mapping Tables from the hard disk of the
controller. You must also use the Settings Editor to delete resources which have been captured
directly from the host. The factory installed resources, fonts and code pages are protected and
cannot be deleted.
