NIC configuration
This section specifies the required NIC configuration and related consequences. The SMB
protocol relies on the TCP/IP protocol. In the table below, the settings are split into two
categories. The categories depend on their permanency:
• Commutable settings are used to enable/disable the connection.
Note: In SMB-support-disabled mode, no communication is possible via the TCP and UDP
ports. Even if TCP and UDP ports are opened permanently at installation.
• Permanent settings are set permanently.

Digital signature
The controller supports requests from many SMB clients, but it does not accept the 'Digital
Signature' feature. If option 'Digital Signature' is set to 'always' in the policy, clients cannot
communicate with the OCESMBD. The policy can be local or retrieved from the network domain
controller.
Security
The SMB functionality does not rely on any Microsoft OS SMB layer. The PRISMAsync controller
has its own SMB server and has none of the Microsoft SMB related vulnerabilities.
Network requirements
• Visibility in a workgroup
To see the hostname of the controller in a workgroup at least one other Windows PC must
belong to the same workgroup. This Windows PC has the role of Master Browser.
For example, the hostname can be OCE.
• Name resolution
