PDF/X output intent with composite output profiles
Introduction
A PDF file can contain a PDF/X output intent. The PDF/X output intent can influence the colour
management of the PRISMAsync controller.
Normal PDF/X output intent
A PDF/X output intent defines the intended output (e.g. FOGRA39 or Gracol_2006) of the PDF file.
In many cases, the PDF/X output intent is defined by m an embedded CMYK ICC profile. The ICC
profile is used in the colour management of the PRISMAsync controller.
The embedded CMYK profile within the PDF/X output intent already defines a simulation colour
space. Firstly, the input colours are converted to the simulation colour space. The simulation
colour space is converted to the engine colour space.
NOTE
The defined CMYK profile as specified in the "colour pre-set" settings of the job is no longer used
in the colour flow for the PDF/X output intent. The output intent profile is used.

PDF/X output intent combined with composite output profile
The figure below illustrates the colour flow if:
A PDF file contains a PDF/X output intent. The PDF file is assigned to a "media family/halftone"
combination and a composite output profile is assigned.
The simulation profile is executed twice. Firstly, the colours are converted to the colour space of
the PDF/X output intent. Then, the colours are converted to the simulation colour space according
to the composite output profile. Finally, the colours are converted to the engine colour space.
The PDF/X output intent must use the same rendering intent as specified for the DeviceCMYK
profile.
For example: Use this workflow to simulate the printed output of a PDF/X file that:
• Was prepared for the FOGRA39 printing condition, but
• Which was printed on a Poing JetStream printer.
