[8] Colour flow when PDF/X output intent and composite output profile are available
PDF/X output intent within APPE
A combined use of a PDF/X output intent and a composite output profile within APPE requires a
three-step colour conversion:
1. Input profile to output intent colour space.
2. Output intent colour space to simulated colour space.
3. Simulated colour space to engine colour space.
However, the Adobe Print Engine (APPE) does not support this last step.
The figure below describes the situation when a PDF file is printed with APPE using PDF/X output
intent with a composite output profile.
APPE does not allow a PDF/X output intent and a composite output profile in a single job. In this
situation, the ICC profile of the PDF/X output intent is only used as source profile for the
DeviceCMYK profile. Other input colours are not converted by the ICC profile of the PDF/X output
intent.
When APPE is used, the PDF/X output intent profile is used as input profile.
