6. Press the TEST button until a click is heard and
then release. See Figure 7-24. Momentarily one
of the four status lights will illuminate indicating
the partial condition of the part.
a. If the OK (green) light comes on, disconnect
the tester black lead attached to one AC
terminal and reconnect it to the other AC
terminal. Repeat the test. If the OK (green)
light comes on again, the part is good and
may be used.
When problems occur in keeping the battery charged
or the battery charges at too high a rate, the problem
can usually be found somewhere in the charging
system or with the battery.
b. If any other light is displayed* in either of the
tests, the rectifier-regulator is faulty and
should not be used.
NOTE: A flashing LOW light can also occur as
a result of an inadequate ground lead
connection. Make certain the connection
location is clean and the clamp is secure.
NOTE: Always zero ohmmeter on each scale before
testing to ensure accurate readings. Voltage
tests should be made with the engine running
at 3600 RPM - no load. The battery must be
good and fully charged.
