REAR SUSPENSION

SHOCK ABSORBER INSTALLATION

NOTE: When installing shock absorbers, make sure front shocks have identical part numbers and rear
shocks have identical part numbers.
1. Install shock absorber in the reverse order of removal.
2. On the upper shock absorber mount, tighten nut (5) until rubber bushing (10) expands to size of cup
washer (9) (Figure 8-3, Page 8-4 or Figure 8-4, Page 8-5).
3. On the lower shock absorber mount, install mounting hardware. Tighten the nut (5) until the rubber bush-
ing (10) expands to the same diameter as the cup washer.

MULTI-LEAF SPRINGS

See General Warning, Section 1, Page 1-1.
NOTE: Turf 1 and Carryall 1 vehicles are equipped with jounce bumpers (Figure 8-3, Page 8-4).

MULTI-LEAF SPRING REMOVAL

1. Loosen the lug nuts on the wheel(s) to be removed.
2. Place chocks at the front wheels and lift rear of vehicle with a chain hoist or floor jack (Figure 8-2,
Page 8-2). Position jack stands under the frame crossmember between the rear leaf spring front frame
mount and the side stringer, just forward of each rear wheel. Lower the vehicle to let the jack stands sup-
port the vehicle. See WARNING "Lift only one end of the vehicle..." in General Warning, Section 1,
Page 1-1.
