Encrypting Data on the Hard Disk

This function can be specified by the machine administrator only.
This function is available only when the optional hard disk and the SD card supplied with the hard disk are
installed.
Prevent information leakage by encrypting the Address Book, authentication information, and stored
documents as the data is written. In addition, if the printer malfunctions or needs to be replaced, your service
representative can easily transfer existing data to a new printer.
When data encryption is enabled, an encryption key is generated and used to restore the data. This key
can be changed at any time.
Data that is Encrypted
This function encrypts data that is stored in the printer's NVRAM (memory that remains even after the
printer has been turned off) and on the Hard Disk.
The following data is encrypted:
• Address Book data
• User authentication information
• Temporary stored documents
• Logs
• Network I/F setting information
• System settings information
• For details about installing the SD memory card options, see "Installing the SD Memory Card Options
", Hardware Guide.

Enabling the Encryption Settings

This can be specified by the machine administrator.
If you specify [Format] to enable encryption when first setting up the printer, the encryption setting procedure
will take only several minutes. Note that all data stored on the hard disk will be initialized when this setting
is specified.
The table below describes which data will be kept and which data will be initialized when [Format], [File
Sys], or [All Data] is specified.
