Glossary

MJPEG: Motion JPEG or M-JPEG is a digital video sequence that is made up of a
series of individual JPEG images. (JPEG stands for Joint Photographic Experts
Group). The quality of the image is guaranteed, regardless of movement because the
captured video is a series of separately compressed JPEG images that can be extracted
individually. The compression level can be adjusted to control image quality and file
size.
MPEG4: is a video and audio compression technology found in many IP network
camera models. The MPEG4 compression standard aims to deliver superior image
quality while optimizing bandwidth.
H.264: H.264 is the latest compression technology that significantly reduces the file
size of high-quality video images. Offers higher video resolution than Motion JPEG
or MPEG-4 at the same bit rate and bandwidth, or the same quality video at a lower
bit rate.
WEP (Wired Equival ent Privacy): A wireless security protocol, specified in the
IEEE 802.11 standard, which is designed to provide a wireless local area network
(WLAN) with a level of security and privacy comparable to that usually expected of a
wired LAN.
WPA (W i-Fi Protected Access): is a data encryption specification for 802.11
wireless networks that replaces the weaker WEP. It is the most advanced encryption
method since it uses dynamic keys, Extensible Authentication Protocol to secure
enterprise network access, and an encryption method called Temporal Key Integrity
Protocol (TKIP) to secure data transmissions.
PPPoE (Point-to -Point Protocol over Ethernet):
Is a network protocol for
encapsulating Point-to-Point Protocol (PPP) frames inside Ethernet frames.
TCP / IP (Transmission Control Protocol/ Internet Protocol): TCP is used
along with the Internet Protocol (IP) to transmit data as packets between computers
over the network. TCP is a connection-oriented protocol, which means that a
connection is established between the two end-points and is maintained until the data
has been successfully exchanged between the communicating applications.
