Touching up paint damage
Small
marks
in
the
paint
s u c h
as
s c r a t c h e s
or stone d a m a g e s h o u l d be
t o u c h e d
up
immediately
with
paint
(Volkswagen tou ch-u p brushes or spray
cans) before the metal starts to rust.
However, s h o u l d rust be found at any
time it must be r e m o v e d thoroughly and
then the area treated first with an anti-
c o r r o s i o n primer and then the c o r r e c t
paint applied.

The numb e r of the original vehicle paint
is given on the data sticker (see page 124).
Cleaning windows
T r a c e s of rubber, oil, grease or silicone
c a n be r e m o v e d with w i n d o w cleaner or
a silicone remover.
Do not dry the w i n d o w s with the leather
u s e d for the paintwork b e c a u s e traces of
paint c l e a n e r will c a u s e streaks to a p p e a r
on the glass.
The windscreen wiper blades should be
c l e a n e d regularly and new blades fitted
o n c e or twice a year a c c o r d i n g to c o n -
dition.
To avoid d a m a g i n g the heating element
wires in the rear w i n d o w do not put
stickers over the wires on the inside.
Door, lid and window weatherstrips
The weatherstrips will remain flexible
and last longer if they are rubbed lightly
with a rubber protective c o m p o u n d from
time to time. This will also stop the
weatherstrips freezing on in the winter.
Cleaning plastic
If normal w as h in g is not sufficient, plastic
parts and leatherette may only be c l e a n -
ed with s p e c i a l plastic c l e a n e r s.
Cleaning cloth upholstery
Upholstery cloth and similar materials
must be c l e a n e d with s p e c i a l c l e a n e r s or
dry f o a m and a soft brush.
