Checking that machines in a cluster can communicate with each other

Each machine in a cluster must be able to communicate with all the other machines in the same
cluster. The easiest way to verify this is to use ping. This program sends a short stream of data
from one machine to another and waits for the receiving machine to return the data.
On each machine in turn, open a DOS window and type
E
is the name of one of the machines in the cluster.
If the machines can communicate, you will see several lines starting 'Reply from' appear on your
screen as the pinged machine returns the signal. If the machines cannot communicate you will see
the message 'Request timed out'.
