The Load Balancing service is used for clustering the Accessories servers and is not necessary for
a single machine. If you try to start Interviewer Server Administration and your URL changes to
http://server1/... then you know that the Load Balancing service is running.
Improving stability when running IBM SPSS Data Collection Interviewer Server
Administration off-line
If you have installed any of the IBM SPSS Data Collection Server applications for off-line use
you may find that installing the Microsoft Loopback Adapter improves stability when running
off-line. When you install the Loopback Adapter, it becomes the first connection in the binding
order that determines the order in which connections are accessed by DNS. If you regularly
connect to a LAN and only occasionally run IBM® SPSS® Data Collection Interviewer Server
Administration off-line, you may wish to move the Loopback Adapter below your regular LAN
connection in the binding order.
Installing the Microsoft Loopback Adapter on Windows XP and Windows 2003/2008

From the Control Panel, go to Add Hardware. This starts the Add Hardware wizard.

Click the green down-arrow next to this frame to move the adapter at least one place down. Your

default Local Area Connection will be at the top of the list again.
