Check thatthe sparkplug washer isingoodconditionandthreadthe spark
plugin byhandto preventcross-threading.

Afterthe sparkplug isseated, t ightenwith asparkplugwrenchto compress
the washer.
NOTE: Wheninstallinganewsparkplug,tighten 1/2-turnafter thespark
plugseats to compress t he washer. W henreinstallingausedsparkplug,
tighten 1/8- to 1/4-turnafterthe sparkplugseats to compress t he washer.

Lubrication
Drive and Shifting Mechanism
Atleastonceaseason or afterevery25hoursof operation, r emove rearcover.
Lubricate all chains, s prockets, gears,bearings, s hafts, a ndthe shiftingmechanism.
Use engineoil or aspraylubricant.Refer t o Figure 22.
NOTE: Beforetippingthe uniton the front housing, r unthe fuel tankempty
sofuel doesnot leakout of the fuel cap.

Carefully pivotthe snowthrowerupandforwardsothat it restsonthe auger
housing.
2.
Remove t he framecoverfrom the underside of the snowthrowerby
removing the self-tapping screws whichsecure it. Referto Figure 27.
3.
Applya lightcoatingof engineoil (or3-in-1oil) to the hexshaft.SeeFigure
22.
NOTE: Becareful n ot to get anyoil onthe aluminumdriveplateor rubber
frktion wheel.Doing sowill hinderthesnowthrower'sdrivesystem. W ipe
offany excess o r spilledoil.
Atleastonceaseason grease the wheelaxlewithArcticgrease, p artnumber
737-0318. Thegrease fitting islocated onthe wheelaxletube behindthe
wheelaxlesupportbracket.

Auger Shaft
At leastonceaseason, o neat atime,remove all ofthe shearpinsfrom the auger
shaft.Spray lubricantinside the hubof eachaugerspiralassembly a ndaround the
spacers onthe augershaft.
Grease fittings canalsobefoundat eachendofthe augershaft.Lubricate with a
grease gunonceaseason. S eeFigure 23.
GearCase
Theaugergearcase isequipped with agrease fitting. Lubricate with grease oncea
season (orderpartnumber737-0168). SeeFigure 23.
NOTE: Torelievepressure, remove the vent plugbeforelubricatingthe gearcase.
SeeFigure 23. Failure to do socouldresultindamage to the gearcase seals.
Augers
Each of the augerspiralassemblies issecured to the spiral s haftwith ashear p in and
cotterpin. If theaugershouldstrikeaforeignobjector ice jam, the snowthroweris
designed sothatthe pinsmayshear.
1.
Ifaugersdonot turn, check to seeif pinshavesheared.
2.
Replace t he pinsif needed. T woreplacement shearpinsandcotterpins
havebeenprovided with thesnowthrower.Spray anoil lubricantintoshaft
before inserting newpinsandsecuring with newcotterpins.SeeFigure 23.
