Ifthe engine hasbeenrunning, the muffler will be veryhot. Becareful not
to touchthe muffler.
NOTE: C heck t he sparkplugonceaseason or every25hoursof operation. C hange
the sparkplugonceaseason or every100hours.
Toensureproper e ngineoperation, t he sparkplug mustbeproperlygapped and
freeof deposits.

Remove t he sparkplug bootanduseasparkplug wrenchto remove the
plug.SeeFigure 20.

DONOT checkfor sparkwith sparkplug removed.DO NOT crankengine with
sparkplug removed.

Visuallyinspect the sparkplug.Discard the sparkplug ifthereisapparent
wear,or if the insulator iscracked or chipped. C lean the sparkplugwith a
wire brushif it isto bereused.
Measure the plug gapwith afeelergauge. C orrect a snecessary b ybending
sideelectrode. S eeFigure 21.Thegapshouldbesetto .02-.03 inches (0.60-
0.80mm).
