NOTE: Onsomeengines, a threadedscrew capwill bepresent i nstead of the quarter
turn lockingcap.In the instance of athreadedoil cap/dipstkk,DONOT screw the
cap/dipstkkinto check. C heck the oil byrestingthe cap/dipstkkon the threads, b ut
not screwingit in.

Remove t he oil filler cap/dipstick. I fthe levelis low,slowlyaddoil until oil
levelregisters betweenhigh(H)andlow (L),Figure 11.

Replace a ndtightencap/dipstkkfirmly beforestartingengine.
NOTE: Donotoverfill.Overfillingwith oil maycause smoking, h ardstarting,or
sparkplugfouling.
NOTE: DO NOT allowoil levelto fall belowthe"L" markon thedipstick.Doing so
mayresultinequipmentmalfunctions or damage.
NOTE" Tochange the oil on yourengine,seethe Maintenance S ection ofthe engine
operator's manual i ncluded with the snowthrower.
Adjustments
Skid Shoes
Thesnowthrowerskidshoes areadjustedupwardat the factoryforshipping
purposes. Adjustthemdownwardprior tooperatingthe snowthrower.
It isnotrecommended t hat you operate this snow thrower on gravelas
it caneasilypickupand throw loosegravel,causingpersonalinjury or
damageto the snowthrower and surroundingproperty.
For c lose snowremoval onasmooth surface, adjust t heskidshoes s othatthe shave plate
onthebottomofthe auger h ousing isjustoff theground.
Adjustthe skidshoes to a lowerpositionto raisethe shave plateoffthe ground
whenclearing unevenareas, s uch asa ribbontypedrivewayor agraveldriveway
NOTE: Ifyouchoose to operatethe snowthroweron agravelsurface, keepthe skid
shoes in positionformaximumclearance b etweenthegroundandthe shave plate.
Toadjust the skid shoes:
1.
Adjustskidshoes byloosening the six(threeon eachside)hexnutsand
carriage bolts securing the skidshoes to the augerhousing.Referto Figure
12.
2.
Whileobserving the distance betweenthe shave plateandthe ground,
adjustthe skidsshoes upor down toachieve the desiredshave plateheight.

3.
Makecertainthe entirebottomsurface ofskidshoes areagainst t he ground
to avoiduneven wearonthe skidshoes; t hentighten nutsandboltssecurely.

Augerand Drive Control Cables
Priorto operatingyoursnowthrower,carefullyreadandfollow all
instructionsbelow.Performall adjustmentsto verify your snowthrower is
operatingsafelyandproperly.
Testing Auger Drive Control
1.
Whenthe augercontrol i s released a ndinthe disengaged " up" position, t he
cableshouldhaveverylittle slack. I t shouldNOT betight. Refer t o Figure 13.
2.
Inawell-ventilated area,startthe snowthrowerengineasinstructed inthe
Operation sectionofthis manual. M akesurethe throttle issetinthe FAST
position.
3.
Whilestandinginthe operator's position(behindthe snowthrower), e ngage
the auger.
4.
Allowthe augerto remainengaged forapproximately ten (10)seconds
beforereleasing the augercontrol.Repeat t hisseveral times.
NOTE: Whenengaging the auger, y oumayheara"chirp"sound. T hisis
normal,it isthe beltengaging the pulley.Asthe belt wears, t hissound will
not beheardwhenengaging the auger.
5.
With the throttlecontrolinthe FAST ( rabbit)positionandthe augercontrol
in the disengaged " up" position, w alk to thefront of the machine.
