Remotely Managing DMI 2.0 PCs

Remotely Managing DMI 2.0 PCs
With DMI 2.0, communications between DMI clients and the DMI
management console rely on Remote Procedure Call (RPC). RPC is
deployed on all desktop operating systems today. This permits
management applications to reside either locally (on the managed
desktop) or remotely (on the management platform). RPCs allow the
same APIs to be used transparently, regardless of whether the source
and destination are co-located and regardless of the underlying
communication media.
In a logical representation, the desktop's Service Provider (formerly
Service Layer) extends to the management console. Again, RPCs allow
communication between processes to be established, whatever their
location and whatever their type.
RPCs are handled directly by the operating system. This makes it easier
for DMI developers to develop new applications; the communication
process does not matter to them. This provides wider interoperability.
