with Integrated RA) use the default setting , PC Code Page. If your
terminal or terminal emulator does not support 25 lines or the extended PC
character set, select "24 lines" or "ISO Latin 1".
For terminal mode, you can specify either 24, 25, or 50-line displays.
If you will use the pcAnywhere application provided with Integrated RA, choose
the default Terminal Settings. If your terminal or terminal emulator does not
support 25 lines or the extended PC character set, select one of the alternatives.
Setting the Pager Mode
You may enable or disable paging for any listed administrator. Use the Down or
Up arrow key to choose a pager mode. When paging is set to "Disabled ," the
designated administrator will not receive a notification, regardless of the events
tagged for notification in the Configure Paging Events window. If you want an
administrator to be paged on a server event, choose numeric or TAP pager mode.
The Telocator Alphanumeric Protocol (TAP) allows a paging device to receive a
text message up to 80 characters in length. (If there are multiple administrators
with paging enabled, Integrated RA will begin paging with the first pager in the
list, then move toward the bottom of the list until every enabled administrator has
been paged.
If your mobile phone supports the Short Message Service (SMS), you may still be
able to configure Integrated RA to send alphanumeric messages. SMS is the ability
to send and receive short messages of up to 160 characters at a mobile phone.
SMS was conceived as part of the Global System for Mobile communications
(GSM) digital standard. It defines the radio protocol for sending alphanumeric
messages to a mobile phone.
Integrated RA's pager messages can be sent to SMS phones if the mobile phone
service provider supports the TAP protocol. Integrated RA sends an alert message
to the service provider using TAP, then the service provider transmits the message
to the mobile phone using SMS.
The following diagram shows how TAP messages are sent.
