Chapter 6 Addendum
Introduction
This chapter describes how to install I/O accessory boards into the HP NetServer LXr 8000's I/O baseboard.
The LXr 8000 supports ten PCI board slots and one ISA board slot shared with the first PCI slot. Slots P1 through
P6 are reserved for accessory boards without the hot-plug compliant drivers. Slots P7 through P10 are reserved for
PCI accessory boards using the PCI Hot-Plug (PHP) option and hot-plug-compliant drivers. However, the capabilities
of the PCI Hot-Plug boards are Network Operating System (NOS) and NetServer dependent.
The HP NetServer LXr 8000 only supports PCI Hot-Plug Replacement in two NOSs: Microsoft's Windows NT 4.0
and Novell's NetWare 5. The PCI Hot-Plug Replacement procedures for Windows NT 4.0 are described in this
chapter. Refer to the hot-plug Help files or the appropriate NOS Help files.
Refer to HP NetServer LXr 8000 on the Information Assistant CD-ROM for the hot-plug replacement (NetWare)
procedures using Novell's NetWare 5.
The procedure described in the section "Installation for Non-Hot-Plug Boards" is applicable to all supported Network
Operating Systems (NOSs).
Tested PCI Boards and Drivers
For a list of tested PCI boards, check for compatibility in Configuration Assistant on the Navigator CD-ROM, or
look for the Hardware Tested Products link for the LXr 8000 under the NetServers' Service and Support topic for the
specific NOS used in the NetServer at HP's website:
http://www.hp.com/netserver/servsup/compatibility
For current PCI Hot-Plug information regarding NOS support and the availability of PCI Hot-Plug compliant
drivers, search for pcihotplug on HP's website at:
http://www.hp.com/netserver/products/lxr8000
CAUTION
Some accessory board outputs may exceed U.S. National Electrical code (NFPA 70) Class 2 or
limited power source limits and must use appropriate interconnecting cabling in accordance with
the National Electrical Code. (All Hewlett-Packard boards comply with Class 2.)
