Chapter 6 Addendum
Installation for Non-Hot-Plug Boards
Use this procedure to install all accessory boards, including PCI boards, for all of the following situations:
All new accessory boards (slots P1 through P10)
All accessory boards installed or removed in non-hot-plug-capable slots
(P1 through P6), including the I/O riser card
All PCI boards with non-compliant hot-plug drivers installed or removed in hot-plug slots (P7 through P10)
NOTE
These steps also apply to all PCI boards with hot-plug drivers installed in slots P7-P10 since the
initial installation of a PCI Hot-Plug board must be done with power off to the system.
1. Read the documentation included with each board and follow any special instructions provided.
CAUTION
To prevent damage to the PCI board or the slot, never remove/insert a PCI board from/into a slot
with the NetServer powered on. Always turn power off to the NetServer before performing any
installation or removal operations.
2. Log off all users and back up all files.
3. Follow the instructions in the respective NOS (network operating system) documentation to gracefully shut
down all networking software and applications.
4. Press the power switch on the HP NetServer's control panel when prompted by the operating system.
Normally, this completes the shutdown procedure.
NOTE
The power supplies will continue to provide standby current to the NetServer until the power
cable is disconnected.
