7124/99 DC Power Option for 7124RCU
E.1 Introduction
E.2 7124 RCU POWER IN/OUT Connector
E.3 7124/99 DC Power Input Cable
The model 7124/99 DC power option for the SIGNAL RECOVERY model 7124
allows the Remote Connection Unit (7124 RCU) to be powered from external DC
power supplies (nominally ±24 V DC), such as batteries, while still allowing
operation from line power supplies.
Operation from battery supplies can be useful in cases where the line power has
accompanying RF noise, which in certain cases could couple through to the
experiment. This has the effect of reducing the benefit obtained by the complete
absence of digital switching circuitry in the 7124 RCU.
Note that although rechargeable batteries can be used for the DC supplies, there is no
provision for the 7124 RCU to recharge these batteries when it is connected to line
power.
DC power is supplied to the 7124 RCU via the 5-pin DIN socket connector located
on the rear panel. Note that this connector also provides the ±15 V DC preamplifier
power output voltages, although when the unit is powered using the supplied DC
power cable there is no provision for making connections to these voltages.

Instruments fitted with the 7124/99 option are supplied with a DC power input cable
that is fitted with two 20 mm x 5 mm in-line fuses, each rated at 1 A, 250 V, fast
blow type.
WARNING: DC power should only be applied to the 7124 RCU DC POWER
connector using the supplied power cable, which must be fitted with the specified
fuses. Use of any other non-fused cable assembly when supplying the unit from
high capacity batteries could result in a potential fire hazard.
