6.3. EMC concept

6.3.1. Purpose

The purpose of this EMC concept is to present planned and implemented measures, which
are essential for proper operation of the converter system in its environment.
This concept covers the converter itself and the individual components. Measures for
achieving electromagnetic compatibility are defined on the basis of the EMC analysis.

6.3.2. EMC Zone Concept

IEC 61800-3 proposes to subdivide the installation into different EMC zones. Fig. 6–1 shows
the generic EMC zone concept according to this standard.
The PCS6000 converter system is designed in accordance with IEC 61800-3. The applicable
zones are
– Zone 0: power supply (high voltage network)
– Zone 1: Primary grid breaker and transformer
– Zone 2: converter power part
– Zone 3: converter control cabinet
– Zone 4: wind turbine generator
