Point-to-Point Calling Problems and Solutions

Problem
ViewStation and ViaVideo
have an incorrect RAS IP
address.
A call with an alias as the
dial string from a registered
endpoint cannot be placed
to another registered
endpoint. The two endpoints
are in different sites.
Dialing by IP address fails.
Description
These endpoints are configured with
a NAT address and may not receive
the RCF message from the
gatekeeper.
The intersite link between the
sites in which the endpoints
reside is not correctly defined or
is missing.
No bandwidth is available in the
intersite link.
The calling bit rate is higher
than the bit rate defined in the
intersite link.
ISDN alternate routing is not
available.
Dialing rules may not be
enabled or may be set to block
instead of route.
A registered endpoint cannot call an
unregistered endpoint by IP address
within the same site.
A dialing rule is not enabled or is set
to block instead of route.
Solutions
The endpoints need to be reconfigured to
disable NAT.
Go to Administrator View > Dial Plan
> Intersite Links and make sure that
an intersite link exists from Network A
to Network B.
Make sure that the IP addresses of
both endpoints are included in their
respective sites.
If site topology is defined for both
endpoints, verify that there is enough
bandwidth in the intersite links between
the two sites.
Verify that the dialing bit rate is lower or
equal to that of the maximum bit rate
defined for the intersite links.
Verify that the LocalDS dialing rule is
enabled and the action setting is route.
If the endpoint is ISDN capable, verify
that the ISDN parameter is correct.
Check the Gatekeeper Diagnostics
Log for error messages.
Verify that the registered endpoint is
registered.
Verify that the Deny calls to/from
unregistered endpoints in this
region (rogues) check box is cleared.
Go to Administrator View > System
Setup > Gatekeeper Settings to
change this setting.
Verify that the IP address dialing rule is
enabled and set to route.
