9 .3 Syst em St a rt Up
Follow all codes and regulations when filling the boiler.
Use drain t aps t o allow syst em t o com plet ely drain.
Thoroughly flush the heating system before boiler is connected
and again after first heating season.
• Boiler is fitted with automatic air vent positioned on pump
and is fitted with adjustable sealing cap. See Figure 9-1.
• Open central heating flow and return valves.
• Open system fill valve until water begins to flow. To aid
venting boiler drain may be open until water flows out.
Close drain as soon as wat er appears.
• During init ial syst em air purge open valve connect ed
t o t op left of heat exchanger. Open four ( 4) full t urns
count erclockwise unt il st eady st ream of wat er is
wit nessed. Close fully t urning clockwise wit h no t ools
needed. See Figure 9- 1.
• Syst em s using radiat ors t o rem ove air - Vent each radiat or
in t urn, st art ing wit h lowest in t he syst em .
• I t is IMPORTANT t he pum p is properly vent ed t o avoid
running it dry and dam aging it s bearings if it is not
circulat ing. Unscrew and rem ove cap from cent er of pum p.
Use a screwdrive, rot at e exposed spindle about half t urn,
replace cap.
• Check operat ion of heat ing pressure relief valve. Pull lever
on t op of valve upwards lift ing t he seat . This will allow
wat er t o escape from syst em . Check wat er is escaping
from t he syst em .
• Open com bi m odels only dom est ic cold wat er inlet valve.
Turn on all hot water taps. Allow water to flow until no air
is present. Turn off taps. See Physical Data page 4 and
sect ion 2.7 Operat ional Feat ures.

• To fill the condensate trap pour water into exhaust vent
until water begins to flow through the siphon.
• Visually inspect t he siphon t o ensure it is full wit h clean
wat er.
• During operat ion check condensat e t rap t o ensure it
draining properly.
