Charging options for the high-voltage battery
(mode 2, 3 or 4):
Charging through recuperation while the vehi-
R
cle is in motion
Charging with alternating current when sta-
R
tionary:
at a mains socket (mode 2)

at a wallbox or charging station (mode 3)

Charging with direct current when stationary:
R
at a rapid charging station (mode 4)

Depending on the country-specific vehicle equip-
ment and your vehicle's charging cable, single
phase AC charging is also possible.
Observe the different grid requirements of your
current location when charging. Only use charging
cables which conform to the grid requirements.
Consult a qualified electrician or your local grid
operator if you have any questions.
It is recommended that you charge the high-volt-
age battery at a wallbox or charging station due to
the improved charging performance and better
charging efficiency offered.
Stowing the charging cable
Always stow the vehicle charging cable in the
charging cable bag provided and attach its spring
hook to the cargo tie-down rings in the trunk or
the cargo compartment.
Otherwise, the charging cable is not sufficiently
secured.
System limits
The power output of the high-voltage battery may
be impaired by the following:
High or low outside temperatures

Electrical auxiliary consumers in the vehicle
R
being switched on, e.g. operating the air con-
ditioning system
Extended periods without charging
R
The charging time of the high-voltage battery may
be increased by the following:
High or low outside temperatures
R
Extended periods without charging
R
The maximum available charge current of the
R
charging facility
The settings of the charging process in the
R
multimedia system (
page 203)

Notes on charging the high-voltage battery at the
mains socket (mode 2)
& DANGER Risk of fatal injury from incor-
rectly installed component parts
Connecting the charging cable to a mains
socket using incorrectly installed component
parts could cause a fire or an electric shock,
for example.
Only connect the charging cable to a

mains socket that:
Has been properly installed and

Has been inspected by a qualified electri-

cian
For safety reasons, only use the charging
#
cable supplied with the vehicle or an
original Mercedes-Benz charging cable.
