Alarm cable requirements

Cabling of the Extended System Monitor (XSM, NT8D22) when two or more
IPECs are configured together is described and illustrated in this subsection.
The XSM is located inside the rear of each IPEC pedestal (see figure "Location
of the Extended System Monitor (XSM)" on page 4-4).

One XSM, usually in the first IPEC, is designated as the master system
monitor. All other XSMs located in the remaining columns are designated as
slave system monitors. DIP switches (also called option switches) are set in
the XSM to establish the master/slave relationship.
