Before test i n g t h e engine for c omp ress i o n
p ressu re, make s u re that t h e cy l i nd e r h ead
n uts are tightened to specified torq u e
val u es a n d valves a r e p ro perly adj u sted .

Have the e n g i n e warmed u p by i d l i n g
befo re test i n g i t .
Remove the spark p l ug.
F it the comp ress i o n gau ge set CD and ® to the
p l u g h o le, tak i n g care to m a ke the con n ectio n
absolutely tigh t.
Tu rn the th rottl e l ever i n to w ide-open positi o n .
Cra n k the eng ine for a few seco nds w it h sta rter,
and read the h ig h est gauge i n d icat i o n as the
compression of the cy l i nder.
