l ess, a s corrected to 20° C ( 68 ° F ) , it means that the
battery is sti l l in a ru n-down condition and needs
rec h a rgi n g .

To read the S . G . o n the hyd ro meter, b r i n g the
el ectro lyte in the h yd rometer to eye l evel and read
the g raduations on the f l oat sca l e bordering on the
men iscus (cu rved - u p portion of e l ectro l yte su rface ) ,
a s shown i n fig u re.
C heck the rea d i ng (as co rrected to 20° C ) with
chart to determ i ne the recharg i ng time in hour by
constant-cu rrent charg i ng at a charg i ng rate of 1 .4
a m peres (wh ich is tenth of the ca pacity of the
p resent battery ) .
B e ca refu l not to permit the e l ectro l yte tem pera­
tu re to exceed 45° C ( 1 1 3° F ) , at any ti me, d u ri n g
the recha rg i ng operat i o n . I nterru pt the operation,
as necessa ry, to l et the e l ectro l yte coo l down .
R echarge the battery to the spec ification.
