4.4.3 Attaching the side sill attachment

◆ Two people are required to position the side sill attachment.
◆ The following sequence of operations describes how to at-
tach the left-hand side sill. The right-hand side sill is attach-
ed in the same way.
The illustrations provide an overview of the bonding areas for
liquid adhesive and adhesive tape on the side sill attachment.
A – ∅ 8-mm liquid adhesive bead
B – ∅ 6-mm liquid adhesive bead
C – ∅ 4-mm liquid adhesive bead
D – adhesive tape
– Align the pull-tabs of the adhesive tape on both sides of the
side sill attachment at a 90 ° angle (as shown in the illustra-
tion).

– First, clean the bonding surfaces on the vehicle and on the
add-on component using isopropanol.
– Roughen and clean all bonding surfaces on the component
to be installed.
● The bonding surfaces on the body and the add-on compo-
nent must be completely dry, clean and free from wax and oil
or grease.
– Apply a ∅ 4-mm bead of liquid adhesive -C- on the left and
right-hand side starting from the top and moving downwards.
– Apply a ∅ 6-mm bead of liquid adhesive -B- to the left and
right of the warning triangle marking for the jack.
– Apply a ∅ 8-mm bead of liquid adhesive -A- within the warn-
ing triangle marking for the jack.
– Place the side sill attachment in the installation position; it
must not rest against the bonding surfaces.
– The side sill attachment encloses the front of the side sill.
Position the front edge of the side sill attachment first.
– Then, starting from the bottom, position the side sill attach-
ment on the side sill -in the direction of arrow A- and guide it
upwards -in the direction of arrow B- while pressing down.
– Position the side sill attachment flat in line with the areas -I-
and -II-.
– Press the side sill attachment -1- onto the side sill -2-.
– Align the side sill attachment on the side sill. Fix the add-on
components in position, using tape if necessary.
