4 Handling
4.1 Preparing for assembly
For assembling the elbow set-up you need a prefabricated inner socket
and a shaped foam part for the outer socket. Inner socket and shaped
foam part need to be connected to each other.
4.2 Assembly
• In order to determine the position and length of the elbow set-up, at first
temporarily attach all components (including the wrist unit and terminal
device) to the shaped foam part.
• In case of unilateral fittings, the distal end of the thumb (Fig. 4) and the
centre of rotation of the elbow joint (Fig. 5) are the determining factors
for the length of the components. In case of bilateral fittings, priority is
given to the prostheses' functionality. When adapting the length, make
sure that the prosthesis will offer the patient a high degree of freedom
of movement.
• Minor length adaptations are possible by shortening the shaped foam part
and the forearm component. It is important, however, that the diameter
for the wrist unit remains unchanged in the forearm socket.
