Documenting settings
► For reproducible documentation of the settings for the parents, cut off the beaded cords three
beads above the front clamp closure (3) (see fig. 7) and/or mark the bead being inserted in
the clamp closure with a waterproof marker.
Abduction setting
1) Slide the push-pull device (6) on the spreader bar (7) all the way to the left (see fig. 8).
2) Slightly tip up the spreader bar (7) through slight interior rotation of the infant's legs. Extend
the spreader bar (7) no further than the marking (see fig. 9) and engage it at the chosen
abduction setting (see fig. 10).
3) To lock, slide the push-pull device (6) all the way to the right against the stop until the push-
pull device engages with audible feedback (see fig. 11).
5.3 Adjusting the Orthosis for Growth
Depending on the course of treatment and the growth of the child, the Tübingen Hip Flexion
Orthosis must be checked and adjusted by the physician. In order to do so, lengthen the beaded
cords on the back closures (8). The extra length of the beaded cords is found behind the red
closures (8) on the shoulder harness (1). The green-white colour of the beads helps obtain a sym
metrical setting for the beaded cords.
1) Release the beaded cord (4) from the back closure (8): hold the beaded cord with the middle
and index fingers, and pull hard until the secured bead is released. This is meant to be tight
since it prevents the beaded cord from coming loose accidentally.
2) Lengthen the beaded cord (4).
3) Secure the beaded cord (4) in the back closure (8): hold the beaded cord with the middle and
index fingers, and pull so that the secured bead engages with a click (see fig. 12). Insert the
excess beaded cord (4) in the guide groove at a 90° angle and secure it in the holder under
the terry cloth cover (see fig. 13).
Proceed the same way on the opposite side and then check to ensure the setting is symmetrical.
5.4 Removal
INFORMATION
To apply and remove the orthosis, the parents must only use the hook-and-loop closure with the
caterpillar (2) and the white closures (3).
Removal
1) Open the hook-and-loop closure (2) and the white closures (3).
2) Take out the beaded cords (4) and lift the child out of the orthosis.
6 Cleaning
The orthosis is corrosion-protected and washable. The terry cloth covers for the shoulder harness
(1) and the hook-and-loop closure (2) may be removed and washed. Use the supplied replace
ment covers and hook-and-loop closure during cleaning.
1) Press on the sides of the closure with your thumbs, unhook the hook-and-loop closure (2)
from the plastic loops (see fig. 15) and remove the hook-and-loop closure.
2) Pull the terry cloth covers off the shoulder harness (1).
3) Wash the terry cloth cover and the fastened hook-and-loop closure (2) in warm water at
40 °C/104 °F using standard mild detergent. Recommendation: wash in a mesh laundry
bag. Do not use fabric softener. Rinse thoroughly.
4) Allow to air dry. Do not expose to direct heat (e.g. from the sun, an oven or radiator).
5) Slide the terry cloth covers onto the straps of the shoulder harness (1) and engage the hook-
and-loop closure (2) in the plastic loops. Ensure that the hook-and-loop closure engages
properly.
