Checking the
Intake/Exhaust-Valve
Clearance
Service Interval: After the first 50 hours—Check
the intake/exhaust-valve clearance.
Adjust, if necessary.
Every 500 hours—Check the
intake/exhaust-valve clearance. Adjust,
if necessary.
If the valve clearance is in the following range, you do
not need to adjust the clearance.
Intake—3.3 to 4.6 mm (0.13 to 0.18 inch)
Exhaust—5.8 to 7.1 mm (0.23 to 0.28 inch)

Remove the 4 bolts shown in
engine.

1. Remove these 4 bolts.

Rotate the engine until you see the gap on
cylinder 1.

With the rocker arm at the highest position, use
a feeler gauge to check the clearance between
the bottom of the adjustment screw and the end
of the valve stem.

When you reach the correct clearance, use the
locking nut to lock the adjustment screw

Adjust the intake/exhaust valves on cylinder 1,
intake valves on cylinder 2, and exhaust valve
on cylinder 3.
6.
Rotate the engine until you see the gap on
cylinder 4.
7.
Adjust the intake/exhaust valves on cylinder 4,
exhaust valve on cylinder 2, and intake valve
on cylinder 3.
