The Handheld Diagnostic Tool (HDT) is designed to be used with the procedures in
Chapter 5 of this manual. This chapter describes the HDT and how to use it. Instru-
ment System troubleshooting information is found in Chapter 5.

The HDT is a precision instrument and is designed for years of trouble-free operation
in a normal vehicle repair environment. It will operate between –10° C and +50° C
and is spill-resistant. Always return the tool to its carrying case when not in use.
To clean the HDT, us only a soft cloth and a mild, non-abrasive soap. Do not use
gasoline, alcohol, or solvents because they will damage the instrument and void
its warranty.
