Symptom - Gauge passes initialization but is inaccurate in actual use; pointer stays at
7:00 with flashing LED; false warning message.
Probable Cause - Defective sense wire; defective wiring to Interface Module; defec-
tive Interface Module.
Procedure: (see Figure 5-7 on page 5-15)
Check the wiring from the sense wire connector as described in Step 1 of Figure 5-7.
1. If the ammeter responds but does not read zero, connect the HDT to the private
data bus and compare its reading to the ammeter's reading.
a.
If the readings are about the same, replace the Interface Module.
b. If the readings are different, replace the gauge.
2. If the ammeter reads zero (pointer at 12:00), the ammeter and Interface Module
are good—check the sense wire as described in Step 2 of Figure 5-7.
a.
If no voltage is measured, check the wiring from the battery to the sense
wire for open connections.
b. If voltage is measured only on one side of the sense wire, the sense wire
is probably open—replace it.
c.
If voltage is measured on each input of the connector and you suspect
the ammeter is still inaccurate, replace the sense wire.
d. If the ammeter does not respond, continue with the next step.
3. Check the wiring from the sense wire connector to the Interface Module as de-
scribed in Step 3 of Figure 5-7.
a.
If the resistance is greater than 10 ohms, one of the wires or connector
pins is open—replace the open wire or connector pin.
b. If the resistance is less than 10 ohms, the wiring is probably good. Re-
place the Interface Module.
