Head movement monitoring and control

The scanner is equipped with various switches that monitor and control
head movement. Table 5-1 lists the switches and their functions. These
switches are mounted to the upper and lower beams.

limit. The heads should not come within approximately
14.0 in (355.6 mm) of the cable or motor end supports.

The preset and limit switches are mounted on rails on the bottom flange of
the upper beam. The crash switches are clamped to the upper fiberglass
head carriage tracks at each end of the scanner. The Emergency Stop (or E-
Stop) switches are on the end support doors at each end of the scanner.

Preset switch

The preset switch provides a reference for head position to either the Frame
Controller Interface board located in the 4604-02 PMP (4022-31, 4022-40
scanners) or the QSIB card in the MXOpen Quality Manager (4022-30). The
preset switch is located mid-scanner on the upper beam. When the heads
pass above it, the preset switch is activated by magnets in the head carriage,
and a signal is sent to either the Frame Controller Interface board or the
QSIB.
The preset switch signal is used by the either the Frame Controller Interface
board electronics or the MXOpen electronics to update the head position
counter. This synchronization of switch position and known head position
ensures precise information for scanning measurements.
